Percussionist Kae Hashimoto Reed is a multi-cultural musician based in New York City. Reed is a native of Japan, and is a percussionist/teacher and clinician in the U.S. and abroad. Recently, she has performed in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. (Kennedy Center), Maryland, Texas, Hawaii, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and China.
Reed’s percussion performances go beyond traditional way, often reaching into cross-cultural genres and styles. She performs classical western percussion and world percussion in traditional and contemporary styles. Reed is also an improvising musician, an avant-garde soloist and chamber musician, performing electronic music in many collaborative projects and concerts. Recent collaborations have involved theatre groups, dancers, and folk/jazz/popular musicians. Recently, Reed has been performing with Middle-Eastern ensembles and sound artists, and is the sound effect creator/percussionist in the theater company Samurai Sword Soul (NYC). She has performed numerous world premieres, many of which were composed for her.
As a marimba player, Reed had performed in all styles from the baroque to contemporary repertoire. She has performed concertos with wind ensemble and percussion ensemble, and has given performances and clinics in communities and schools cultivating an awareness of the marimba, modern performance techniques and literature. Reed’s discography includes the CD No Beginning, No End by pianist Kenny Werner.

Reed has also performed with orchestras, wind ensembles and chamber ensembles including the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Thailand, the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, and at the International Trumpet Guild Conference (ITG). Ms. Reed founded the group Integrated Percussion Ensemble, and was the conductor/director of this group and was appointed as percussion instructor for the Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble conference (SAYOWE), Thailand.

Prior to coming New York, Reed had served as the percussion instructor at the College of Music, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand.
